Service Is Love Made Visible…

A friend of mine recently posted a video on Facebook of the 2011 commencement address at Northwestern by Stephen Colbert. In his address, Colbert makes the statement, “In my experience, you will truly serve only what you love because service is love made visible.” What words of wisdom.. This phrase is very true, if you love your friends, you will serve your friends. If you love your church, you will serve your church. And likewise, if you love yourself, you will serve yourself. “You will truly serve only what you love.” So if you don’t love the people you’re feeding in the soup kitchen, or if you don’t love the people you’re building a house for, then it’s not really service… it’s more of a chore than service. Think about it next time you volunteer to serve somewhere, will you choose to love them and make your love visible? Or will you let your service become a chore..?
