An Ode to Mothers

Mothers make the world go round.

Seriously! What would we do without our mothers?   …that’s kind of a trick question – we wouldn’t be here without our mothers!

Moms are capable of anything and everything.

Moms bring us into this world. (And of course the threat that always follows this statement, they can take us out of this world too!)

Moms make great laps to sit on – whether it’s to pose for a photo, for watching tv, sleeping on, or just showing love, a mother’s lap is always the most comfortable and comforting place.

Moms teach us to hold our heads high and to smile. Not like that goofy smile where your lips cover your teeth, but that full fledged toothy grin that cost her a couple thousand dollars.

Moms show us that it’s okay to be sad sometimes. Life isn’t always fair and we get knocked down. But that doesn’t mean we need to let it get to us. We keep pressing on and looking ahead towards brighter days.

Moms demonstrate the importance of being serious. While it’s great to have fun and games, there times that we need to be serious. (sometimes seriousness and fun and games get all mixed up :P )

Moms push us, guide us, and lead us in the right direction. They hope for the best, and strive to help us reach our fullest potential. They are there to celebrate with us in our proudest moments.

Moms let us know that it’s okay if we’re not perfect. We don’t have to have it all together or know exactly what we are doing with our life. We don’t have to be the prettiest or smartest or most liked. We just need to be ourselves. We are our best when we are ourselves, even if that means we’re windtossed.

Simply put, moms are crazy. They’re weird, they’re strange, they make the craziest of faces. Fortunately that rubs off on us. We get the crazy genes.

Moms stick their noses up in our business.
Just kidding.

Moms are beautiful, inside and out.

Moms are under-appreciated. They spend their lives sacrificing and doing everything in their power to make our lives wonderful. Moms are spectacular. They know how to comfort us and they always know the words we need to hear. Moms are amazing. Moms love us.

To my dear mother –
I don’t say it enough, but you are perfect and beautiful and loving. You are my role model and the source of all my craziness. And I hope that one day, I’ll be just as great of a woman, mother, and role model for my future children, as you are for me.

I love you.

Go tell your mom you love her. Tell her you appreciate her. Not only on days like today, Mother’s Day, but every day. They need to hear it. They deserve our thanks.

Moms across the world, we love you.
