Do you think Jesus ever spent time relaxing at the Dead Sea? Covering himself in the mud and then washing it off while floating? Do you think he was amazed when he weightlessly floated atop the water? Did he laugh with friends, enjoying an afternoon spent at the Dead Sea?
Our last full day in Israel, we spent time at the Dead Sea and at Qumran. It was a fun and relaxing end to our journey.

We started by visiting Qumran, the home of the Dead Sea Scrolls. It was really cool to see the caves where the scrolls were found as well as the remains of the community that was once in the area. It was so fascinating as you could see the different cisterns, miqvahs, rooms and waterways.

Afterwards we went for a float in the Dead Sea. It was an incredible experience. It’s so weird walking into the water, waist deep and kicking your feet back, expecting to fall into the water but instead floating. I was skeptical at first, but how mad would I be at myself if I didn’t do this while I was here?

It was a short time in the water, as you are instructed not to spend a long period of time in the water (think 15 min or less). But let me tell you – it was such a cool experience, I didn’t even notice how short it was. If you ever get to go to the Dead Sea – do it. It is incredible, and well worth rinsing out your swimsuit 5+ times in the hotel bathroom to get all the saltiness out!

Over the next couple of days I’ll be sharing about some of the sites in Jerusalem, and then we’ll be approaching Holy Week! I can’t wait!
