On our last day in Jerusalem, we got up early and set out for the temple. Due to holidays the temple had been closed to visitors during our time in Jerusalem and was finally going to be open on our last full day.
We arrived when visiting hours first began, as to avoid any crowds. We gathered near the El-Aksa Mosque on the south end of the temple. Our beloved tour guide, Mike provided us with the history of the temple.
As we ventured toward the north end of the temple grounds, we ascended up the steps through an archway to see the Dome of the Rock.

Throughout our time in Jerusalem the temple was always easily identifiable by its gold dome. As we approached the temple, we were able to take in all of its beauty.
The tiles that make up the temple are incredibly ornate and are so colorful and vibrant. No matter how hard you tried, a picture could not do it justice.

We were able to spend some free time on the grounds walking around and just taking in the sights. The day started out somewhat overcast and during our time here the sun starting to peek out from the clouds. As you walked around the temple you could catch different colorings and shadowing’s based on where you were compared to the sun. It was so crazy to look back at my pictures and see how different they look. Some of them look very moody with the sun hitting from behind and some of them are very bright and vibrant with the sun shining right on the dome.

It was a very peaceful morning just being able to relax and breathe in the fresh air and just take in the beauty of the Dome of the Rock.
